Although John Olson is a very common name, the family demographics and the close proximity of Hans Alm seem to indicate that this entry in the 1895 census is for "our" John Olson. He and Oline were both born in Norway, and in 1895 they had two daughters, Helga and Johanna. ---- |
The five members of the Hans Alm family living in Ashland were most likely Hans, Anne, Iver, Oscar, and the first Alvin. |
The first Alvin was reported to have been born and died in 1894; the census raises a question about when he died. It appears he was probably still alive in June of 1895. Alvin may well have been born in Wisconsin. It now seems likely that he survived until at least the middle of 1895. The first Julia is reported to have been born and died in 1895. The census offers a clue that she may have been born and died in the latter half of that year. No record of the baptisms, deaths or burials of the first Julia and the first Alvin have been found in Watson MN. Based on the Wisconsin census, it seems likely these two children died while the family lived in Ashland. Their deaths may even have been a factor in the family's decision to return to Watson. |
