Monnie & Helen

Helen & Monnie's son

Helen was born in Binford in December of 1905. She married Manfred Knapp in 1931. They had one son.  She and Monnie helped care for her father in the last year of his life. Her mother lived with Helen and Monnie until her death in 1957.  Helen was a full working partner in the Knapp Grocery Store, which Monnie opened in 1943. She continued to operate the store after his sudden death in 1962.

Helen sold the family home after Monnie's  death. She and her son moved into the upstairs apartment in her sister-in-law Hazel's home.  In their later years, Helen's conscientious care allowed Hazel to remain at home until shortly before she died.
Helen eventually moved to her son's home.

She spent the last few years of her life at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown ND.  She received many cards and greetings when she reached 100 years of age in 2005.  Helen died peacefully on September 19, 2006.  She was buried next to her husband and her sister Alice in the Knapp family plot in Binford Cemetery.
