Art was born in 1908 in Binford.  After high school graduation, he taught school for a period of time. He then attended the Agricultural College in Fargo (now NDSU) majoring in engineering. He married Margaret Mary (May) Curran. They had three children.

He was called up for service during World War II.  When he returned home, he accepted a position with the Lennox Corporation. He retired from that company over 30 years later.

After May's death, Art traveled and visited most of the Alm relatives around the country. His death in 1998 came while visiting his daughter and a nephew in North Carolina.

Art worked on an autobiography from 1992-1997.
