Helen Anita Alm was born in Binford on November 21,  1915.  She graduated from Fargo Central High School and worked with her aunt Ruby until her marriage to Robert Schmit in 1938.  Bob and Helen had two children. He died in 1993. 

Helen worked at the Fargo Clinic (now Meritcare) beginning in the 1960's.  After they retired, Helen and Bob escaped North Dakota winters by spending time in the southwest with her brother and son. Spending the Christmas holidays with her sister and daughter became an annual tradition.  Back in Fargo, Helen was an avid bridge player, and she enjoyed - and had better than average luck with - the "one armed bandits" at area casinos. Her family was the centerpiece of her life, and her love for and pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were obvious to all those who knew her.

Hans and Anne's first grandchild died March 29, 2005 at 89 years of age.
