Iver and Anna (Gilbertson) Kanten, both of whom were natives of that country. The parents were educated and grew up in their native country and were there married. They came to the United States in 1864, locating in Fillmore County, Minnesota, where they lived until 1869, at which time they moved to Chippewa County, where the father homesteaded eighty acres of land in Tunsberg Township, on which he constructed a dug-out, in which the family lived for some time. The land at that time was a wild waste of prairie, but by hard work he succeeded in making the tract a good farm. In time the dug-out was replaced by a most comfortable and substantial farm house. Mr. Kanten prospered and in time became the owner of three hundred and fifty-two acres of land, where he and his wife spent the rest of their lives, dying some years ago.
Iver Kanten and wife assisted in the founding of the Union Synod Lutheran Church in this locality. They were active in all local social and religious activities of the community, Mr. Kanten having taken much interest in all local civic matters, and did much in the way of the development and growth of the Township and the County in which he lived.
To Iver and Anna Kanten were born the following children: Hans, Gilbert, Christian, Plelger, Michael, Andrew, Iver, Martha, Ingeborg, Peter and Anna.
