Zion Lutheran Church, rural Watson MN

Iver and Anne Kanten and their children were charter members of Zion. The church is no

longer active, however the community has rallied to preserve the building and maintains

the cemetery where many family members are buried.

In 2001, Zion Restoration Society was honored by the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota

The Zion Preservation Society saved the 1876 Zion Lutheran Church building from being dismantled and removed in the 1990s after it was closed. Since then, the Society has worked to fund maintenance and restoration work and celebrated the church’s 125th anniversary this year. Since 1998, the Society has supported two church services annually along with other church and community functions.
