Otto and Hulda's first child was born while the couple was living outside Lake Park, in Becker County MN.  The family would return to Clay County before Ivy turned 2.

Ivy graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead and taught English and foreign languages in high schools in Minnesota before accepting a position at an Indian School in western Washington.  She returned to school, receiving a degree in library science from the University of Washington.

She became an assistant librarian in Bend, then head librarian for Lake County OR. She returned to Bend as head librarian for Deschutes County, retiring from that position in the 1970's.

Ivy died at age 82.
