Elvina Alice Grover was
born Sept. 17, 1905 and grew up on the Grover homeplace. She attended
Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. and was the organist at Concordia
Lutheran Church in her teens and early 20's. She had an adventurous
spirit and her independence and activities set her apart from most women
of that time. She took a job at the first photo processing plant in Fargo ND, and continued to work in that field until her marriage. In the late 1930's the sisters moved to Oregon. Elvina married Lester Wick on Sept. 20, 1941, in Eugene.An outstanding cook and gracious hostess, Elvina also enjoyed her garden. She could "knit up a storm." She and Lester moved to Central Oregon in 1948. They farmed in Alfalfa until 1962 and then in Powell Butte until 1987 when they moved to Bend. Elvina left her home on 10th Street for a retirement community shortly before her 100th birthday. Active and involved until a few days before her death, she passed away peacefully on October 29, 2006. She was 101 years old. Elvina celebated her 100th birthday in 2005
