 Rannei  Aslaksdtr

Tarje's oldest sister, Rannei, was born in 1819. She was already planning her wedding when Kristi and her four younger children left for America. Rannei married Tarje (Torgeir) Amundson in 1847 and they lived on the Nedrebo farm their whole lives. 

 

Rannei died in 1865 at the age of 44. Her husband died three years later, in 1868.

 Aslak Thomas

 

Rannei's son Aslak was born in 1848.  He emigrated from the Tomaas farm in Norway and joined his uncles in Houston County in 1869.  In 1875 he  moved to the Buffalo River Settlement where he would establish his farm in Kragnes township. Aslak and Tarje's son Alex were "two peas in a pod" according to one of Alex's nephews.  In 1890 Aslak married Anne Gletne.   A. T. joined his cousins Alex, Ed and Krist working winters as lumberjacks in Northern Minnesota around the turn of the 20th Century.  He died February 23, 1924 and is buried in North Buffalo Lutheran church cemetery.

1870 Census

 

A.T. Thomas and his sister Sarah are living with their uncle Tarje in Houston County MN in the 1870 Census.  Younger brother Osmund Thomas was working on Tarje's father-in-law's farm.

By the time of the 1880 Census, Aslak had purchased his farm just north of Kragnes.  He is a single man listed in the census as "Ole."

Sarah and Christi

Sigrid Tarjesdtr was born in 1849.  She emigrated to America with her brothers and in the 1870 Census she and her brother Aslak were living with with her uncle Tarje and his wife Geline.  Sarah reportedly married Dan Weaver. They made their home in Minnesota.

 

Christi Tarjesdtr was born in 1851. She died at the age of 5 1/2.

 Osmund Thomas

After emigrating from Norway, Aslak's brother Osmund worked for Tarje's father-in-law according to the 1870 Census He is mentioned as one of the early pioneers - and Leif Levi Thortvedt's best man - in the story of the Buffalo River Settlement published in the Fargo (ND) Forum in 1941. He remained in the settlement until sometime after the 1885 Census. He is listed as a miner in the city of Hope in the 1900 Alaska census.
