Tom Alm

Tom died after a valiant struggle with blood cancer on July 16, 2022, missing his long-anticipated 80th birthday by only a few weeks.

Born on August 6, 1942 in Fargo, ND, Tom graduated from Shanley High School and North Dakota State University in Fargo ND and entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. After two years of active service, including a year in Vietnam, he moved to St. Paul, working for and retiring from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

In 1990, at a performance of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, he met Arlene Davis Goodman, and they married in 1992. Arlene brought Tom a life of world travel and classical music, and Tom gained two young adult daughters.

A highlight for him was traveling with stepdaughter Barbara back to Vietnam after 40 years. Tom continued to serve in the U.S. Army Active Duty/Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Tom was always proud of his military service and remained active in veteran's affairs until recently. Memorial service 4:00 PM on Monday, July 25th. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery August 25.
